Due to higher than expected snow accumulations, gusty winds, and sub-zero temperatures through the weekend – the Shelton Public Schools said it will be closed Friday.

In order to aid city snowplow drivers and the school's custodial workers in clearing sidewalks and parking lots – central and all school offices will also be closed Friday.

"It is our hope we will resume normal school hours when we return on Monday," a statement from the school district said.
